SAP Deliveries ( with respect to an SAP Sales Order ) can be created with or without a Transfer Order. This confusion has risen for many of our SAP Training students and here is a detailed explanation of the same.
- An SAP Transfer Order is required to pick goods in a delivery when the Plant/Storage Location IS attached to a Warehouse in Enterprise Structure.
- An SAP Transfer Order is NOT required otherwise.
Sometimes you get the error when the picked quantity is grayed out on SAP Delivery. Click on the link to know more on this specific but related error.
Let us take an example.
The following SAP Sales Order # 16346 has been created with a delivering Plant of 1000 for line item 10.
A couple of things can be observed here. The “SAP Warehouse Number” field is empty. The Overall Warehouse Management Status says “NO Warehouse Management Transfer Order Required”. What this means is that for the storage location 0001 associated with the plant 1000, SAP Warehouse Management is NOT enabled. Hence the picked Qty field is not grayed out – which means, you can just directly pick, without creating a transfer order.
If you wanted to confirm if the Plant 1000 and Storage Location 0001 has a Warehouse Number assigned in SAP Enterprise Structure, go to [spro-> IMG->Enterprise Structure->Assignment->Logistics Execution -> Assign Warehouse Number to Plant / Storage Location ]
As you can see, in this example, Plant 1000 and Storage Location 0001 is NOT assigned to any warehouse.
Contrast this to the scenario where an SAP Transfer Order IS required in order to pick the goods in the delivery.
As you can see, the “Picked Qty” field is grayed out and CANNOT be manually entered. The Warehouse Number is specified and the overall Warehouse Management Status ( OverallWMStatus) is ‘A’ which says it is required.
If you double check your enterprise structure in this case you should observe that the SAP Plant 1200 and Storage Location 0001 has been assigned to the Warehouse Number 012.
