Summary

We have also discussed an example of how to make the name field optional based on setting the field indicator of the respective field status group in the Customer Account Group 0001.

Exercise

Scenario 1 : The Sales team has been creating customers right left and center and through the team, there were some errors that the Sales Power user has consistently observed.

  1. The Customer Account Assignment Group has been left out most of the time, which is causing issues with Accounting.
  2. The Price Group has been left out most of the time, which is causing issues during Pricing.

The Sales Power user has asked you to configure the system in such a way that for the Customer Account group ZXXX, always ensure that the fields mentioned above are always filled up.

Question 1 : Create a new Customer Group ZXXX ( Choose any value for XXX ) which is a copy of 0001 ( The regular Sold-to  that we have been using )

Question 2 : Change the Customer Account Group ZXXX to ensure that the above problem stated above is fixed.

Question 3 : Test the Customer Master Numbers created with the above Customer Account group you have created and post examples of the same.

        I was unable to do Q3, and if you the following you would know why. I am not really understanding what you mean by “give the Customer Number you created…………….”

        1. When I worked on account groups, and click on GeneralData, or sales or company Code,
        I get some fields Blue and some black. but when I compared with 0001 sold-to-party,
        every field is blue.why?
        2. on Q3 when I go to enter partner function and and account group, after entering ‘SP’
        and ZXYA for account group I clicked on save, I get this msg:
        ‘choose the key from allowed namespace’
        what is that mean?
        3. Also when I started to do excercise followed the path to configure Account Group: this
        msg was prompted
        ‘The data is locked by user MAGNA.EHSAAN and can be
        displayed only.Do you want to display locked data? ‘
        Obviously I lcicked yes and went to next step and then stumbled…:)

      Here is how you fix this. Just make these entries blindly for now.

      Go to [ SPRO -> IMG -> Sales & Distribution -> Basic Functions -> Set up Partner Determination -> Select Partner Determination for Customer Master ] and double click on “Account Groups -> Function Assignment” in the left. and create the following new entries

      SP ZXXX
      SH ZXXX
      PY ZXXX
      BP ZXXX

      Save it and go back and now try to create a customer master again for the same customer account group ZXXX.

    Q3) Created new customer # 100197 in account group ‘ZSRI’ which has internal number range.
    As per the requirement price group and account assignment group are required fields for customer master data creation.

    OK …I think I know now why you asked me the question. Keeping your advice in mind,I
    decided to create a customer master anyway and executed vd01 and it gave me the options
    to select account group. I knew I was having problem saving my account group ZXYZ and ZXYA
    so I thought I will create a customer master by using some other pre existing account group( may be using
    Sri ‘s account group ). But I saw my account group ZXYZ available in option too. So I decided to
    select my account group. But I got this msg from system…internal number….So i think
    I know where I made the mistake. Had I had selected external number at account group levelI would not
    had this problem. But I will discuss you in class tonight.

      1. When I meant give customer number – it means, specify the customer number you have created in the system. ( Instead of just writing down , I created customer ). The reason why I am asking you is , since you and I share the same system, I can validate your answers by going into the system and looking up the customer number.

      2. Good to see you moving forward. Yes – thats the way to go. If you get stuck somewhere, find your way around. Use alternates. Getting stuck is very common and it happens to the best of us.

      3. The SAP error message “Data locked by ..” is issued when you are trying to change data that you have already opened elsewhere. This has to be practically demonstrated in the system for you to clearly understand. For starters, you can just quickly log out of SAP and log in again ( The more elegant approach is to find out where exactly you opened the transaction that is being locked – Like browse through all the SAP GUI windows and find out where exactly you opened the transaction in question and come out of the transaction ) .

    I tried to create a customer master after reading your comments and executed vd01 and it asked me
    to select account group. Because I had problem saving my account groups ZXYZ and ZXYA,
    I was going to use some other pre existing account group( may be using
    Sri ‘s account group ). But I notice account group ZXYZ and ZXYA was also available and when I decided to
    select ZXYZ.t I got this msg from system…internal number….Is this why you made those comments?
    Had I had selected external number at account group level I would not had this problem?
    But I am going to start all over again, selecting external number option and see what happenes.
    I still need answer to my other questions though.

    Absolutely love the fact that you are working very hard and practicing a lot. Now, with the questions.

    The reason why I made those comments is because, you just listed the SAP Customer Account Group you created. But the proof of the pudding in in creating a Customer master using that account group you created and then you will hit roadblocks. When you solve them, then you will really understand the configuration you have done behind Customer Account Group. Always remember, configuration is best learned by testing it on end-user transactions.

    1. Blue fields indicate that there are issues with the transaction you are running. Look a the warning or error messages in the SAP Status bar. Let’s check it out in the class.
    2. Namespace is an issue related to SAP Partner Function Determination. Never mind about it. We will discuss more on this at a later stage ( SAP Partner Function Determination Class ) . If you want to fix this immediately, follow the advice I have given Sri to fix this. ( She had the same issue too ). For now you can just leave this

    While doing the mini project, i am trying to create new account group for customer master using transaction (OVT0) by coping the account group 0001. But when i am trying to create customer master, its taking the internal number range, and I am looking to create external number range for customer. Please tell me how to do that?

      Thanks for the compliments. Appreciate it.

      In order to change the number range of the customer account group to internal, you would have to change the number range in the “General Data” section of the SAP Customer Account Group to a number range that is external. Choose 04 – It is external.

      Here is how you can find it out. – Go to the list of possible values for Number Range – and look out for the row with the “External” column crossed.

    Answer: Created New Customer Account group Z199 (Copy of 0001)
    Question 2 : Change the Customer Account Group ZXXX to ensure that the above problem stated above is fixed.
    Answer: For Scenario 1- Double click on sales Data view in customer account group Z199 – again double click on Billing – customer account group select radio button for require entry.
    2) Scenario 2 – Double click on Sales Data view – again double click on Sales – price group select radio button for require entry
    Question 3: Test the Customer Master Numbers created with the above Customer Account group you have created and post examples of the same.
    Answer: I created New customer 9555 using Z199 customer account group and try to save customer without entering customer account group and price group, it’s showing me message that missing require entry so configuration in customer account group is working.
